SCOTT MOE MUST SUSPEND GAS TAX AS PRICES SURGE ACROSS SASKATCHEWAN

Premier, MLAs Too Busy Riding High In Private Jets To Hear The Pain Down Below At The Pumps
REGINA – Carla Beck’s team is demanding Scott Moe and his MLAs stop riding high on the taxpayer dime, come back down to the ground and cut drivers a break at the pump.

According to GasBuddy.com, fuel prices over the weekend went to $1.85 per litre in Regina, $1.89 in Saskatoon and well over $1.90 in several other communities. Photos have even emerged online of prices as high as $2.20 at certain stations in rural Saskatchewan.

The sticker shock at the pump marks a dramatic price spike from the roughly $1.60 per litre recorded in early September. Experts have attributed the increase to a refinery outage, renewed Middle East conflict and resulting disruption in the Strait of Hormuz.

Finance Shadow Minister Trent Wotherspoon called on Scott Moe to stop making excuses and suspend the 15-cent-per-litre provincial fuel tax today.

“The bottom line is the Sask. Party is raking in additional revenue from surging oil prices while everyday people relying on their vehicles for work, to pick up their kids and so much more are getting squeezed more than they can bear,” Wotherspoon said. “Scott Moe has the audacity to tell people he’s already making their lives more affordable, but everyone we talk to say the basic necessities needed to get by have never been more expensive.

“Perhaps the Premier has lost touch with reality,” Wotherspoon added. “We know he and his colleagues far prefer cruising at 30,000 feet in luxury jets, but back down here on the ground people are facing real hardship and it’s time for change.”

Earlier this month, the federal government announced they are extending their relief from the federal fuel tax until April 1, 2027. Still, Moe has refused to follow suit.

Transportation & Highways Shadow Minister Darcy Warrington said the pain at the pumps is putting pressure on small business owners and the trucking industry which has been hammered repeatedly by sky-high costs in recent years.

“These gas prices are brutal for hardworking Saskatchewan people,” Warrington said. “We already know this Premier has an abysmal record when it comes to job creation and supporting small businesses. Now, he’s banking on the misery of people just trying to get by.

“This is a greedy government that is only focused on their friends and insiders. It’s time to park the private jets and talk to every day people just trying to fill up at the pump. It’s time for change.”
