Sask. NDP Calls on Sask. Party to reverse cuts to Yorkton Lab Services

YORKTON - Today, Official Opposition Health Critic Vicki Mowat joined with health care workers calling for the microbiology services to be reinstated at the Yorkton Hospital. 

Despite assurances from Yorkton’s Sask. Party MLA that there was no intention of pulling services out of Yorkton and that the situation would ‘soon be rectified,’ employees have learned that the hospital laboratory has been turned into a break room. This is another blow to regional health services in Yorkton in recent years, including a loss of pediatric services in 2019.

REGINA – Last night, Official Opposition Critic for SGI Aleana Young attended the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel hearing to reject SGI’s proposed increases and instead cut rates for Saskatchewan families.

Saskatchewan NDP calls on Sask. Party government to ban conversion therapy

REGINA – Today, Official Opposition Deputy Leader Nicole Sarauer and Opposition Critic for Human Rights Meara Conway, joined by Queen City For All, demanded that the Saskatchewan Party Government take province-wide action on conversion therapy. This comes as Regina City Council officially adopted a bylaw this week to prohibit the violent and discredited practice that continues to harm 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Saskatchewan.

“We’re very proud of the fact that both Saskatoon and now Regina city councils have shown clear leadership on this issue to ban this practice within their city limits,” said Conway. “However, this step was only necessary due to the lack of leadership at the provincial level from Premier Moe and this government. Regardless of the municipality, all LGBTQ+ people in this province deserve those protections.”

"We're sorry to see Mr. Belanger leave our caucus and are grateful for his service as Saskatchewan's longest-serving Indigenous MLA. Our focus now will be making sure there is a strong voice for Northwest Saskatchewan in the legislature as the Sask Party has repeatedly shown complete disregard for the concerns of the people of Athabasca.”

NDP Statement: Time for Action on Climate Change and Good Jobs

In response to the IPCC report, NDP Environment Critic Erika Ritchie released the following statement:

“Today’s report by the United Nations climate panel is disturbing. Saskatchewan families want to do what’s right for the environment and for our economic future. 

Unfortunately, the Sask. Party has failed to come up with a credible climate change plan. This has left Saskatchewan people and our economy exposed. The continuing wildfires and distressing drought experienced in our province prove that we need a real plan, something this Sask. Party government has refused to provide.

The provincial government’s latest report on climate progress included no new measures related to mitigation through emissions reductions – which is unchanged since the original document was published in 2016. While adaptation is important, it is the Sask. Party’s only focus, and they have no plans to actually reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our province. In fact, despite promises to reduce emissions, they have continued to increase.

StatsCan report shows Sask. Party’s COVID-19 jobs recovery worst in the nation

REGINA - Today’s StatsCan data reveals that under Premier Scott Moe, Saskatchewan has experienced the worst jobs record in the country since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Scott Moe has given Saskatchewan families the worst of both worlds: Rising COVID case numbers, the lowest vaccination rate amongst the provinces and the worst jobs performance in the country,” said NDP Leader Ryan Meili. “The Premier has failed in his response to COVID-19 - including at Extendicare Parkside - and he has failed working families with the biggest drop in jobs in Canada. Both these failures lie directly at the Premier’s feet.”
