REGINA – Today Meara Conway, MLA for Regina Elphinstone-Centre, called on the Minister of Health to reverse his decision to deny healthcare coverage to a Saskatchewan-born infant and Canadian citizen who contracted COVID-19 because of the immigration status of his mother.
The Statement reads as follows:
“Today, on Red Dress Day, we acknowledge the historic and continued exploitation of our mothers, daughters, granddaughters, aunties, cousins, and sisters. The issues that have led to this long-standing tragedy run deep in our country’s colonial heritage and are exacerbated by ongoing systemic racism and inaction.

REGINA – Over the weekend, Sask. Party MLAs voted against stronger fines for organizers breaking provincial health orders around mass gatherings.
On Saturday, May 1, Official Opposition Deputy Leader Nicole Sarauer moved amendments to Bill 23 - The Emergency Planning Amendment Act. These amendments proposed a specific offense for organizing a protest in contravention of public health measures with a fine of not less than $10,000. On Friday, April 20, Sarauer wrote the government to inform them of her intent to introduce these amendments.

REGINA – Today, the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan passed Bill 601, The Saskatchewan Strategy for Suicide Prevention Act, 2021 introduced by NDP Opposition Critic for Mental Health and Addictions Doyle Vermette. Vermette has long advocated for the implementation of a suicide prevention strategy in the province and was elated by the passing of the bill.
