Saskatchewan People Can’t Afford $26 Billion Disaster That Will Drown Them In Debt And Double Rate Hikes
REGINA — Carla Beck is calling on Scott Moe to fire his out of control SaskPower Minister, toss the catastrophic, $26-billion coal plan in the trash and go back to the drawing board.
FIRE JEREMY HARRISON, TOSS THE CATASTROPHIC COAL PLAN IN THE TRASH AND START ALL OVER: BECK
“This is it Scott Moe — you or your Minister got caught,” Beck said. “Either Minister Jeremy Harrison was acting on his own volition and thought he could sink $26 billion of our money without your knowledge or any accountability to the people of Saskatchewan.
“Or, this Premier has known about this plan all along and he endorses wasting $26 billion without telling the very people he’s supposed to be serving.
“If this was Jeremy Harrison going rogue, finally fire him and apologize to Saskatchewan people for this costly failure of leadership.”
Beck’s call comes one day after a second SaskPower briefing note was exposed by her team. The note, prepared for the Crown’s Audit and Finance Committee, warns of the “extreme” risk of refurbishing coal plants, warns that power rates will nearly double, reliability is at risk, and that previously committed to renewable energy projects will be scrapped completely.
Last week, an initial briefing note surfaced proving the catastrophic coal plan will cost $26 billion, more than the entire annual budget for the province of Saskatchewan.
In both instances, the briefing notes were leaked to Beck’s team — the second document makes specific references to withholding details of the coal catastrophe from the general public.
“Well, it’s not a secret anymore,” Beck said. “And I want Scott Moe to know this. If he plows ahead with his plan to double power rates and drown us in generational debt, our team will take this to every doorstep, every community barbecue and every stakeholder meeting this summer.
“We will fight this with every tool at our disposal because Saskatchewan’s future is far too important. It really is time for change.”
