AUDITOR TELLS SCOTT MOE TO STOP DUCKING ACCOUNTABILITY ON SASKATCHEWAN’S BELOVED CROWNS

Continued Secrecy Spanning More Than Four Years Comes As Scott Moe Tried To Hide $26-Billion Coal Catastrophe
REGINA – Saskatchewan's Provincial Auditor has again urged Scott Moe and Jeremy Harrison to allow the Legislative Assembly to “demonstrate appropriate scrutiny and hold agencies accountable,” when it comes to the province’s Crown corporations.

Moe’s secrecy scheme of refusing to convene the Crown and Central Agencies Committee now spans more than four years.

“This is a government that has been downright hostile to accountability and transparency when it comes to how they’re managing Saskatchewan’s Crowns,” said MLA Erika Ritchie, who serves as the Deputy Chair of the Crown and Central Agencies Committee.

The renewed call for transparency comes in a letter responding to the call from Carla Beck’s team for a special investigation into Scott Moe’s $26-billion coal catastrophe. Moe and his SaskPower Minister, Jeremy Harrison, got caught in a ten-fold lie after claiming publicly the decision to build new coal plants would only cost $2.6 billion.

In her letter, Provincial Auditor Tara Clemett wrote: “As outlined in 2025 Report – Volume 2, Chapter 30, related to the Standing Committee on Crown and Central Agencies, the Committee had not met since December 2022 to review the last several years of annual reports of the Crown Investments Corporation (CIC), including those of SaskPower, and its subsidiaries. The chapter is intended to encourage the Committee to undertake timely review of annual reports and our Reports to demonstrate appropriate scrutiny and hold agencies accountable.”

“This is a continued pattern of lying, scandal and horrific cover ups that has come to define 20 years of the Sask. Party,” Ritchie said. “This is a government that no longer believes it’s accountable to the people of Saskatchewan, if it ever did.
“It’s only thanks to brave insiders at SaskPower, who risked their careers, that we now know that Scott Moe and Jeremy Harrison were lying through their teeth about the cost of their catastrophic coal plan.”

Clemett stated in her letter that she completed an integrated audit of SaskPower in May and will examine the overall design of Scott Moe’s $26-billion coal plan, including “how the Strategy aligns with SaskPower’s long-term planning, prior analysis, and emissions targets.”

“We’ve seen what years of hiding accountability has done to Crowns like SaskPower,” said Aleana Young, Shadow Minister of Jobs, Economy and SaskPower. “They are hundreds of millions in debt, running huge deficits and hiking rates on Saskatchewan families, farms and small businesses.

“Scott Moe needs to act and rein this Minister in. He should stop hiding, open the books, and let the people see what they’re paying for.

“It is time for change.”
