WHERE'S WEEDMARK?

Saskatchewan People Deserve Better Than An MLA Who Hides From Accountability
REGINA – Embattled Sask. Party MLA Kevin Weedmark showed up at the Legislature for work Tuesday, but he ducked the press gallery — again.

It’s now been 50 days since footage of Weedmark’s private luxury jet trips was exposed by Carla Beck’s team. Since then, questions have swirled about whether the trips were above board as well as numerous questions regarding Weedmark’s newspaper funding, payroll and operations and both MLA office money and official government money being used to by advertise in his newspaper.

On Tuesday, Weedmark didn’t even come out into the rotunda after the Throne Speech with his colleagues, he ducked out a side door to avoid a throng of reporters.

“This MLA, the Premier, this entire Sask. Party government is entitled, arrogant and out of touch,” said Meara Conway, Shadow Minister of Health and author of a 21-page letter to the Conflict of Interest Commissioner regarding Weedmark.

“I am calling on Kevin Weedmark to face the music and answer the litany of questions the media has been asking of him and his shady operations today. Saskatchewan people deserve so much better than this.”

Last week, Weedmark was forced to pay back federal funding flowing to his newspaper. The Speaker of the Legislature also admitted he failed to properly consult the Board of Internal Economy before granting exemptions for Weedmark to take MLA office money for advertising in his newspaper, The World Spectator.

"We have a situation where the taxpayers of Saskatchewan have given over $30,000 to the private business of an MLA and that business then contributed significantly to his political campaign,” Conway said. “This whole thing stinks. People have questions, legitimate questions that should be answered.”
