STRIKE-PRONE MINISTER COCKRILL CAN'T ANSWERS BASIC QUESTIONS ABOUT HEALTHCARE IN SASKATCHEWAN

14,000 Healthcare Workers Could Walk Off Job As Minister Clearly Can’t Grasp Basic Information About His File
REGINA – Scott Moe's Health Minister, who is on the cusp of starting his second strike, admitted yesterday that he doesn't know how many health workers have left the province over the past four years.

"Over the last three years there have been two strikes in Saskatchewan, and at the heart of both has been Jeremy Cockrill, insulting and dismissing workers," said Nathaniel Teed, Labour Shadow Minister.

"There are only weeks left until CUPE's strike vote, and Jeremy Cockrill is more interested in torquing the numbers, and defending the higher pay rates of the SHA's overpaid executives that delivering a fair deal, with the fair raise that these frontline workers deserve.”

When asked yesterday how many health care workers have left Saskatchewan since 2022, Cockrill said "I don't have that number."

"There can't be a more obvious indication that Jeremy Cockrill, either isn't taking the crisis in healthcare seriously, or that he is so incompetent that he can't provide this basic piece of information," Teed said.

"Either way it is no wonder why health workers feel so disrespected, ignored and disregarded by this Minister and Government."

On Tuesday, Carla Beck and Shadow Health Minister Meara Conroy hand delivered a letter demanding that Cockrill use the powers under his authority to institute a fair mandate for workers, impose a pay freeze for SHA executives, and set a deadline of September 2026 to conclude bargaining.

"A strike could devastate the already crumbling healthcare system, and with an absent jet-setting Premier, and a health minister who can't answer basic facts about the health system, people are right to be concerned," Teed said.

"Cockrill needs to do some pretty basic research and publicly share with the public exactly how many healthcare workers he and his government have driven out of Saskatchewan.

"If we want to avoid a strike, it starts with finally being honest with workers, and the public. But if we want to save the healthcare system, it starts with replacing Cockrill with someone who actually gives a damn.

"Its time for change."
