Scott Moe Has Not Lifted A Finger Amid Encampment Crisis That’s Gripped City
SASKATOON - As crews move to dismantle the large encampment at Avenue K and 20th Street in Saskatoon this morning, Carla Beck's team is again calling on the Sask. Party to take responsibility for the housing and homelessness crisis that has left people with nowhere else to go.
SCOTT MOE IGNORES MAJORITY OF SASKATCHEWAN PEOPLE DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT DATA CENTRES
Still, Scott Moe and the Sask. Party are pushing ahead full throttle with a data centre that will be the size of roughly 525 Canadian Football League fields in the Rural Municipality of Sherwood. Moe and his run-amok Minister Jeremy Harrison have ignored calls for nine months for public consultation on the project.
“This is a government that doesn’t believe it’s accountable to everyday Saskatchewan people,” said Carla Beck, Saskatchewan NDP Leader. "The message from Saskatchewan people is clear: they have major concerns about hyperscale AI data centres — if only they had a government willing to listen.”
The Angus Reid poll, released this morning, found that nearly two-thirds of Canadians want their provincial governments to limit large data centre development. In Saskatchewan, that number rises much higher to 70 per cent.
Beck reinforced her call for a moratorium on all hyperscale AI data centres until a proper process for evaluation is created and actual public consultation occurs.
“Saskatchewan people deserve a voice in the future of their communities,” Beck said. “This Sherwood data centre has gone up effectively overnight — it’s massive. People are rightly concerned and they have never been given a voice.
“Saskatchewan people deserve so much better than this. Our message is not only is change possible, it is on the way.”
