SCOTT MOE DEMANDS PRAISE FOR WATERBOMBER THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO ARRIVE IN AUGUST

Sask. Party Failed To Adequately Support Saskatchewan for 2026 Wildfire Season — Yet Again
REGINA — Scott Moe plans to hold a Sask. Party celebration today for a delayed water bomber that is only ready now, after the 2026 wildfire season. Today’s press conference is further evidence of this government’s complete failure to protect Saskatchewan communities.

On Tuesday, the Sask. Party and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency will hold a media availability on “the addition of a Dash 8-Q400MRE aircraft to its air fleet.” The only problem? This aircraft was supposed to arrive in August.

“Once again, we see the Sask. Party throwing themselves a parade after showing up late. What Northerners see is failure after failure from this provincial government,” said Jordan McPhail, Shadow Minister of Northern Affairs and Forestry.

“This aircraft was announced in 2024 and was supposed to be here in the summer. It was supposed to be ready to fight wildfires and protect communities and first responders. Why is it showing up at the start of winter? This is yet another proof point that the Sask. Party is totally in over its head when it comes to public safety.”

The Saskatchewan government announced in April 2024 that it would purchase two Dash 8-Q400MRE planes, one of which was supposed to arrive in August. The missed deadline was the latest in a series of errors, cover-ups and lies in the fallout from the 2025 wildfire season, which saw hundreds of homes burned to the ground.

“This should not be a celebration — this should be an apology to the people of the North whose homes and communities were destroyed because Scott Moe and Tim McLeod abandoned them during a historic crisis,” said McPhail.

“To date, this government has hidden from accountability for its unforgivable failures and lies to the people of Denare Beach, East Trout Lake, Sucker River and more. The people who lost so much because of the wildfires don’t need a government that celebrates while they still struggle to put their lives back together.”

To date, the Sask. Party has not properly responded to the devastating MNP report on the failures, confusion and poor decision-making during the 2025 wildfire season.

It has since been revealed that Public Safety Minister Michael Weger lied to the people of the province about when the report was ready and that it was likely delayed to protect Moe and McLeod from facing questions during the spring session of the Legislature.

“I welcome all the necessary tools to protect the North from wildfire, especially this plane. But if Scott Moe, Tim McLeod or any member of the government thinks this photo op will erase the anger and pain their failures caused, they are sorely mistaken,” McPhail said.

“Change is coming to Saskatchewan, and when it gets here, we will see real accountability and action to protect communities in the North and right across this province.”
