BECK SAYS SASK POLYTECHNIC LAYOFFS HURT STUDENTS AND PRINCE ALBERT’S FUTURE

Beck and 20 Saskatchewan NDP MLAs Hit the Doors in Prince Albert to Hear Directly from Residents
PRINCE ALBERT – Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck and most of her 27-member caucus are in Prince Albert, going door-to-door to hear directly from residents about the challenges they’re facing and the changes they want to see.

Top of mind to many is the Sask. Party forcing Saskatchewan Polytechnic to lay off another 23 full- and part-time staff, 13 of which are at the Prince Albert campus.

“Right now, jobs and educational opportunities are leaving Saskatchewan, and our kids and young people are following right behind,” said Beck. “I want our next generation to make this province their home to build their careers here and raise their families.

“Prince Albert has so much potential, but this great community has been taken for granted by Scott Moe and the Sask. Party over the past 18 years.

Beck said that, if she were Premier, she would have already stepped in and ensured layoffs were never a reality for SaskPoly, especially at such a critical moment for the province.

“We can’t have a strong Saskatchewan and a strong Prince Albert without a strong SaskPoly,” Beck said. “Scott Moe has no plan to keep our children here and grow our economy. It’s time to own up to the fact that the Sask. Party has completely starved post-secondary schools of funding for years.

“It’s time to make investments today that will set us up for success tomorrow.

“It’s time for change.”
