12 RURAL WEEKEND EMERGENCY ROOM CLOSURES PUT FARMERS IN DANGER DURING HARVEST

Scott Moe's Self-proclaimed Ambitious Health-care Plan Leaves 12 Rural Emergency Rooms Closed, Failing Rural Residents
SASKATOON — Twelve emergency rooms across Saskatchewan were reported as "disrupted" over the weekend as farmers raced to complete one of the most difficult harvests in decades.

News outlets reported disruptions in twelve communities, including Melville, Preeceville, Kamsack, Wolseley, Wilkie, Herbert, Kipling, Lanigan, and Maidstone between Friday, Sept. 25, and Sunday, Sept. 27.

"Thousands of people across the province did not have immediate access to emergency rooms this weekend," said Keith Jorgenson, Associate Shadow Minister for Health. "The Sask. Party says they've got the most ambitious health-care plan in the country. What is ambitious about people dying because they can't access health care in an emergency?”

Over the past year, dozens of emergency rooms have experienced disruptions, resulting in thousands of days of rural ER closures.

These closures come on the heels of CUPE health-care workers voting 99 per cent in favour of a strike, the largest strike mandate in Saskatchewan health-care history.

"Everywhere you look in our health-care system, it's chaos. Emergency rooms are closed, women are dying in childbirth, young people are dying from broken ankles, and seniors are being treated on the floors of our hospitals," said Jorgenson.

"I can't think of one thing the Sask. Party is getting right these days, especially when it comes to health care. People are dying."

"It's time for change."
