WILL SCOTT MOE’S SASKPOWER MINISTER FINALLY FACE THE MUSIC FOR HISTORIC FAILURES TO PROTECT CUSTOMERS, KEEP COSTS DOWN?

Jeremy Harrison Has Failed to Answer Basic Questions Over and Over
REGINA – Scott Moe’s SaskPower Minister Jeremy Harrison is due to answer questions — theoretically — at a budget estimates meeting Tuesday night amid unprecedented mismanagement of the Crown, constantly increasing costs and a $136-million power rate hike on families, farms and small businesses the Premier himself insisted wasn’t happening — until it did.
“This Minister has lost the plot — he no longer believes he’s accountable to the people of Saskatchewan,” said Aleana Young, Shadow Minister for Jobs, Economy & SaskPower.

“He has openly lied about the cost of refurbishing coal plants and about hiking power bills. He's refused to face questioning about $1 billion with no oversight. He’s bullied stakeholders for speaking out about not being consulted and he’s continued to insist at every turn that there’s nothing to see here when every piece of evidence points to a complete and total failure to do his job.”

Harrison skipped out on a legislative committee meeting in early December while greenlighting an additional $1 billion in SaskPower spending that wasn’t in the budget.

He pegged the cost of refurbishing coal plants at $900 initially — the figure now stands at $2.6 billion and climbing.

And the Premier himself insisted in the Legislature on Dec. 4 that no power hike was being considered. On Jan. 2, the $136-million hike was announced and has since been criticized by major industry representatives, agricultural producers, small business groups and more.

Tonight, Harrison is due to appear at SaskPower estimates at 7 p.m.

The committee, as all are, will be streamed online.

“The people of Saskatchewan are watching,” Young said. “Frankly, they’re sick of a Minister and a Premier who have forgotten the very people they were elected to serve.

“It’s time for change.”
