STATEMENT FROM SASKATCHEWAN NDP SHADOW MINISTER FOR PARKS, CULTURE AND SPORT DARCY WARRINGTON

For immediate release: May 5, 2025

Our creative sector is already fighting to survive — now Donald Trump’s plan to slap a 100% tariff on Canadian film and media would be devastating. It’s a direct attack on Canadian culture, on jobs here at home, and on Saskatchewan’s film industry.

This is about defending our sovereignty. Trump’s tariffs are designed to gut Canadian industries, weaken our economy, and force us to become the 51st state. We cannot let that happen.

Saskatchewan’s film industry creates good jobs, tells our stories, and builds our economy. The Sask. Party and the federal Liberal government need to fight back against these reckless tariffs and defend our economy before it’s too late.
