STATEMENT FROM SASKATCHEWAN NDP MENTAL HEALTH & ADDICTIONS SHADOW MINISTER BETTY NIPPI-ALBRIGHT ON FENTANYL IN PRINCE ALBERT

We’ve already seen the havoc a bad batch of drugs has wreaked in Saskatoon, leading to hundreds of overdoses – and those are just the ones we know of – and likely causing many deaths.

How many more of our young people – our future – will have to die before the Sask. Party Government takes action? We know these drugs have been present in Saskatoon for weeks and only recently has the government initiated an emergency response.

We need to get tough on the criminals who are trafficking these killer drugs. We also need to provide real support to people who are addicted and being targeted with this killer supply of fentanyl.

We need a public health emergency declared today in Prince Albert before people die. We need a massive expansion of education about these drugs in the region too and we need to provide Naloxone and other forms of support.

I am demanding the Sask. Party come forward today with a plan to save lives in Prince Albert.
