SCOTT MOE SITS ON HANDS WHILE THOUSANDS LOSE JOBS IN MOOSE JAW-SWIFT CURRENT REGION

Over Past Year, Employment Has fallen by 4.7 Per Cent in the Swift-Current Moose Jaw Region

MOOSE JAW – Despite all the Sask. Party spin, the numbers reveal the truth — Scott Moe’s job creation record is a failure for the people of Saskatchewan, and especially those in the Moose Jaw-Swift Current region.

Data from Statistics Canada released Friday shows that, in the month of December, 4,000 people lost their jobs and the unemployment rate climbed to 6.5 per cent. The youth unemployment rate climbed to a staggering 15 per cent.

In the Moose Jaw-Swift Current region, specifically, 2,500 people lost their jobs.

“Thousands of people lost their jobs in December, but Scott Moe still says the economy is strong and resilient,” said Aleana Young, Economy & Jobs Shadow Minister.
‎
“Here in the Moose Jaw region, 2,500 more people are out of work and there’s been no acknowledgment from the Sask. Party, no empathy, no promises of change, only spin from Scott Moe's overpaid communications team.”

The total number of unemployed people in Saskatchewan is currently rivalling rates seen during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s clear that Saskatchewan’s economy is doing poorly and large areas of the Province are experiencing little or no job growth,” said Young.
‎
“We need a new economic strategy to ensure that our economy is actually resilient and strong, something that this tired and rusted-out government is unable or unwilling to do. The tens of thousands of people without jobs deserve better than the status quo.

“While they are focused on spinning the people of Saskatchewan, Carla Beck and the entire Saskatchewan NDP team are focused on creating good-paying jobs and lowering the cost of living — that is the change the people of this province are looking for.”
