SCOTT MOE’S REFUSAL TO PASS BILL 606 PUTS EVERYONE ON SASKATCHEWAN HIGHWAY IN HEALTHCARE NO MANS LAND

Legislation By Carla Beck’s Team Demanding Real-Time Healthcare Closure Reporting Stalled By Political Games Of Sask. Party
REGINA — Associate Shadow Health Minister Keith Jorgenson is in Davidson today to talk about the benefits of making Bill 606, The Provincial Health Authority (ER Closure Right-to-Know) Amendment Act, law.
The bill, introduced by Rural & Remote Health Shadow Minister Jared Clarke, would require the Saskatchewan Health Authority to publicly report healthcare closures within one hour through an online platform or other electronic means.

“When a health centre on one of Saskatchewan’s busiest highways closes abruptly, it’s not just inconvenient — it’s dangerous,” said Jorgenson. “This bill is about giving people critical, timely information when they need care the most. In an emergency, knowing where services are available can be the difference between life and death.”

Davidson Health Centre is the only Hospital on Highway 11 and serves a wide area between Saskatoon and Regina. In the case of an emergency, Davidson is the closest place to receive patients but closures have people driving in the wrong direction just to be met with a “closed” sign on the door.

The Davidson Health Centre has experienced several closures where the emergency room is on bypass and cannot receive any patients and times where only a virtual doctor is present where the scope of care provided is limited.

“For people involved in a serious crash on the highway, having an open emergency room can mean the difference between life and death,” said Jorgenson. “We know the Sask. Party has failed to keep emergency rooms open and now they’re hiding proof of that failure.

“Saskatchewan, we don’t have to settle for this. We can go back to leading the nation in healthcare. It really is time for change.”
