SCOTT MOE’S PUBLIC SAFETY MINISTER WEGER CAUGHT LYING ON THE RECORD ABOUT SHOCKING WILDFIRE REPORT

Enough Is Enough — Scott Moe Needs To Fire His Incompetent Public Safety Replacement Minister
SASKATOON – Scathing new documents show the Sask. Party government lying to people of the North who lost so much during last year’s devastating wildfire season. The lies are just the latest in a series of failures, cover ups and scandals concerning Scott Moe’s government’s horrific preparation, response and review of the disaster that saw hundreds of homes and businesses burnt to the ground.

Following last year's devastating wildfire season, the government commissioned a review and report through MNP, a report that was initially expected to be completed by February. When February passed and the report was still not available, the Sask. Party government extended the timeline until March 31, 2026, and then again until late spring.

“Minister Weger went on the record and stated that they had not received the report from MNP yet, but we know now that was a blatant lie.” Carla Beck said.

“This was a blatant cover up to cover this government’s political hides during the Spring Sitting — and it’s just the latest in an unfathomable series of actions that completely neglect and disrespect my constituents who lost so much and were looking for a government that was there for them.”

In a series of documents acquired by Beck’s team through a freedom of information request correspondence within the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency shows that they had received the finalized report from MNP as early as March 26, 2026. Further correspondence within the document shows an email sent on April 14, 2026, to Marlo Prichard, president of the SPSA, stating the following:

“Recent public communications from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) have suggested that this report has not yet been received. However, I have had direct correspondence with senior executives at MNP who have confirmed, in writing, that a core report has indeed been delivered to the SPSA”

Just a day prior to this email being sent, the Minister of Community Safety and Minister responsible for the SPSA, Michael Weger, stated in the Intergovernmental Affairs and Justice Committee minutes that “No, no. We have not received the report from MNP.”

“These are elected officials who have blatantly lied in the attempt to control the narrative and avoid responsibility as long as they possibly can,” said Jordan McPhail, Northern Affairs Shadow Minister. “Enough is enough, on behalf of the people of the North and every person that calls Saskatchewan home, I am calling on Scott Moe to fire this incompetent Minister. He’s not up for the job.

“It’s time for change.”

Weger has been embroiled in constant scandals since being named Minister in December — a move to replace the incompetent former Public Safety Minister Tim McLeod, who completely mishandled the wildfire crisis. Recently, Weger’s Saskatchewan Marshals Service was caught trying to buy a series of heavy weapons and equipment in a bid to build an American-style security force.

Then, just this week, Weger misrepresented why he spent $50 million in taxpayer money with no oversight or explanation to the public.
