SCOTT MOE’S HEALTH MINISTER ADMITS WOMEN IN MOOSE JAW WAITING AN AVERAGE 10 WEEKS FOR BREAST CANCER BIOPSIES

In Scott Moe’s Saskatchewan, Even Finding Out If You Have Cancer Comes With A Waiting List
MOOSE JAW – Carla Beck’s team is demanding a real plan to improve women’s healthcare in Moose Jaw as Scott Moe’s Health Minister has admitted even a basic breast cancer biopsy can take up to 10 weeks.

The written response shows women with a low to moderate likelihood of cancer were waiting 9-10 weeks for a breast biopsy as of October 2025. Women considered high risk were waiting four to five weeks.

“When a case is considered high risk, every day and week matters — both medically and emotionally,” said Jacqueline Roy.

“Women will not settle for this. We deserve timely care, clear answers, and a government that makes women’s health a priority.”

The figures relate to diagnostic breast health centres, where women are sent after doctors identify a concern requiring further testing to determine whether cancer is present. Some women in Saskatchewan are waiting 10 weeks just for the biopsy itself, with pathology results taking additional time.

“No woman should have to spend months fearing the worst while waiting for a biopsy, or having treatment delayed,” Roy said.

The issue is not exclusive to Moose Jaw either — at the Saskatoon Breast Health Centre, wait times increased over the past year. Women considered high risk waited 2.5 weeks for a biopsy in October 2024. By October 2025, the wait had increased to three to four weeks.

For women with a low to moderate likelihood of cancer, waits increased from 3.5 to 4.5 weeks in October 2024 to four to five weeks, one year later.

After Carla Beck’s team raised concerns about growing delays in 2023, the Sask. Party government began sending patients to a private Calgary clinic for breast cancer diagnostics. By March 2026, media reports claimed 831 Saskatchewan patients had been referred out of province.

Cockrill’s written response also revealed the government cannot provide comparable breast biopsy data from previous years because the Saskatchewan Health Authority did not track wait-time data specific to breast biopsies before April 1, 2024.

“Not tracking this data in 2024 is very concerning. I will have more to say about this in the weeks ahead. It is clear that after 20 years, Scott Moe and the Sask. Party have lost control. We will continue to demand the accountability women deserve,” Roy said.

“It’s time for change.”
