Moe Presses On With Plan Leaked Briefing Notes Deeming It Extremely Risky & Expensive
SASKATOON — Scott Moe’s extremely risky, $26-billion coal catastrophe will kill investment, cost jobs and make life so much more expensive for Saskatchewan workers.
SCOTT MOE’S $26-BILL COAL CATASTROPHE BAD FOR SASKATCHEWAN’S ECONOMIC FUTURE, KEEPING COSTS DOWN FOR WORKERS
Trade & Export Development Shadow Minister Kim Breckner and Jobs, Economy & SaskPower Shadow Minister Aleana Young attended a breakfast event with federal Minister of Transport Steven MacKinnon Friday before warning further about the devastation that will be caused if Moe plows ahead with his coal plan.
A SaskPower briefing note leaked to Carla Beck’s team states Moe’s plan will double power rates, see the cancellation of planned renewable energy projects and is tagged as being extremely risky in several critical areas.
“The bottom line is this — we can’t afford Scott Moe’s coal catastrophe,” Breckner said. “Hardworking people already struggling to make ends meet can’t afford it, our economy can’t afford it and future generations — our kids and their kids after that — certainly can’t afford this.
“There is so much potential for Saskatchewan as we build a resilient Canadian economy for the future, but not with this $26-billion boat anchor dragging us underwater into an ocean of debt.”
Saskatchewan lost over 10,000 full time jobs in April alone and Moe has had one of the worst job creation records in Canada since becoming Premier in 2018.
“This is a government that is out of ideas, that hides behind officials when pushed on their plans for our economy and whose only answer is double down on coal despite federal investment being focused on natural gas, nuclear and renewables,” Young said.
“There are billions of dollars on the table but we’re going to toss that all away and pursue a $26 billion coal plan that Scott Moe and his Minister have tried to hide every step of the way.
“These guys are out of control and they have to be stopped. It really is time for change.”
Carla Beck’s team has produced an energy future plan that doesn’t rely on Scott Moe’s catastrophic coal scheme, keeps costs more affordable, reduces long-term financial risk, strengthens energy security and generates $33 billion in economic activity.
