In the past 17 years, this has only happened once — in 2021, during the pandemic. It didn’t happen after the 2007, 2011 and 2016 elections.
The actual norm? The spring session typically begins in early March for 10 weeks, with the budget usually following in the third week.
This gives the people of Saskatchewan time to ask their government important questions and gives the government more tools to deal with a crisis, such as the potentially devastating trade war with the US.
Unfortunately, Scott Moe clearly just doesn’t want to come to work, even though we're on track for two rounds of job-killing tariffs before the Legislature is even set to reopen on March 19.
It’s the Premier’s job to tell Saskatchewan's story on the world stage. Since session has not stopped Moe and his ministers from travelling in the past, it’s reasonable to ask what’s stopping them from walking and chewing gum this time. Too few MLAs with too many vacations to meet quorum?
After 17 years in government and big losses in the last election, the same old Sask. Party wants to do the bare minimum. They’re tired and just not focused on the future of our province.
The Saskatchewan NDP continues to call on the Sask. Party government to reopen the Legislature immediately and get back to work.
