“Not only ignoring them, they’re actively gaslighting people,” said Sally Housser, Shadow Minister for Energy & Resource Development. “They’re telling people their concerns have bene addressed, their fears aren’t real. They’re telling people, ‘there’s nothing to see here, trust us,’ but no person I’ve spoken to does.
“Saskatchewan people deserve a voice in the future of the community, but the Sask. Party has denied them that and no longer believes they’re accountable to everyday people,” Housser added. “Clearly, these guys have been in power far too long and it’s time for change.
Asked about the data centres in Lloydminster on Thursday, Moe said, “Well, there are fair questions and to each of those fair questions there's very straightforward answers as well.”
Harrison, meanwhile, tried to claim on the Evan Bray Show, that consultation on the massive Sherwood data centre had occurred. In reality, people were kept in the dark prior to an announcement Monday that the project would quadruple in size.
Municipal officials in multiple communities have gone public with concerns about a lack of consultation over hyperscale AI data centres in recent days.
Thousands have come forward with concerns about the project over the last nine months. Major issues include the impact to the power grid and household power bills, water usage and the lack of a standard environmental assessment.
“Everything about the Sherwood data centre has been done in secret backrooms,” said Brittney Senger, Shadow Minister for Tech, Innovation & AI. “That’s not how you build consensus and it’s what led our team to demand a full moratorium on these projects until a proper process is established and a robust public consultation occurs.
“The Sask. Party doesn’t believe Saskatchewan people get a say in their communities’ future — they couldn’t be more wrong. Clearly, it’s time for change.”
