SASKATCHEWAN NDP DEMAND EMERGENCY ACTION AFTER REGINA POLICE REPORT 46 OVERDOSES IN 8 DAYS

Sask. Party Can No Longer Ignore Urgent Drug Crisis Sweeping the Province
REGINA - The Ministry of Health has issued a devastating overdose alert in Regina after police report 46 overdoses and four suspected overdose deaths between February 2 and February 9th, yet the Sask. Party continues to sit on its hands. There is no information on the drugs involved but the Ministry says the substances could include opioids.

“These numbers are shocking — what else does this government need to finally take this issue seriously?” asked Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck. “How many more people must die before an emergency is declared and a real plan is put forward to address this crisis?”

The drug crisis is killing nearly one person each and every day in this province. The Saskatchewan NDP has repeatedly called on Scott Moe and the Sask. Party to do more to get drugs off Saskatchewan streets, improve public safety and save lives — starting with declaring a public health emergency.

“People are waiting too long to get into treatment,” said Betty Nippi-Albright, Shadow Minister for Mental Health & Addictions. “We need real investment in frontline supports to help people suffering from substances use harms and resources to lock up drug dealers who are pouring these poisons into our communities.

“Too many young people are dying, too many parents and communities are grieving, and everyone on the frontlines keeps telling me that things are getting worse.”
