SASKATCHEWAN NDP CALLS ON SCOTT MOE TO KILL CONSTRUCTION TAX, TOUTS BENEFIT TO PRINCE ALBERT ECONOMY

Tax Delays Projects, Costs Builders $484M Annually
PRINCE ALBERT – Carla Beck and the Saskatchewan NDP are calling on Scott Moe to end his job-killing construction act and touting the benefits of the move for Prince Albert and region.

The six per cent PST on construction labour introduced in 2017, costs builders an estimated $484 million every year, driving up the cost of building roads, houses, and infrastructure across Saskatchewan.

“Scott Moe’s spending and his accumulated debt resulted in this job-killing tax,” said Sally Housser, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Energy & Resource Development. “It delays critically needed projects and ultimately drives up the costs paid by everyday Saskatchewan people.

“This is a time to be building Saskatchewan for now and for the future, and Scott Moe should stop standing in the way.”

Housser and several other Saskatchewan NDP MLAs attended the Prince Albert Mayor’s State of the City Address Tuesday. She said the region has limitless potential when it comes to mining, forestry and serving as a critical gateway to the resources in the North.

After 18 years of the Sask. Party, economic growth has slowed, Moe has one of the worst job records in Canada and population in the province is on the decline for the first time in 20 years outside the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Clearly, these guys don’t have a clue,” Housser said. “A Saskatchewan NDP Government led by Carla Beck is going to get to work on Day 1 creating good jobs with bigger paycheques. We will lean on the hardworking and self-reliant people that call this incredible province home. It’s time for change.”
