SASKATCHEWAN NDP CALLS FOR MOE, SASK. PARTY TO GET TOUGH ON TRUMP IN WAKE OF LATEST TARIFF THREATS

REGINA – The Saskatchewan NDP is calling for the immediate restoration of retaliatory measures against the United States as Donald Trump threatens to impose 35 per cent tariffs in two weeks' time.

In a letter sent Monday, Saskatchewan NDP Energy & Resources Shadow Minister Sally Housser called on the Sask. Party to stop pandering to Trump and stand for Saskatchewan workers, businesses and our collective economic future.
“Moe and his Ministers seem just fine with Trump's threats to our economy and our sovereignty, but the Saskatchewan NDP will not let up,” Housser said. “We will continue to demand action in the face of these potential tariffs and on tariffs that have already been imposed on products like Saskatchewan’s world-class steel.”
The Sask. Party’s previous tariff retaliation plan came far too late and has delivered very little in the way of action. To date, the government hasn’t provided evidence of denying or cancelling a single contract with an American company, despite promising to do so four months ago.
American companies continue to run Saskatchewan medical lab services, parks and hunting registries, paid hospital parking lots and more.
The Sask. Party has also broken ties with the Team Canada approach and put American liquor back on store shelves, despite British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick all sticking to their guns and refusing to do so.
Housser urged the Sask. Party to immediately restore the ban on American liquor and to get to work severing contracts with companies from south of the border wherever possible.
As well, the Saskatchewan NDP Caucus has been meeting with economic leaders here in the province and right across the country to discuss economic opportunities. Housser has made two trips to Alberta in recent weeks to talk to business and energy leaders.
“There are major opportunities in front of us right now and Scott Moe and the Sask Party seem to have taken the summer off,” Housser said. “We have a consensus never before seen on building major, generational infrastructure from coast to coast to coast. I’m talking about more rail lines, pipelines and power lines.
“Let’s stand up for Saskatchewan, build our future within a united Canada and reduce our reliance on Trump’s America.”
