SASKATCHEWAN HEALTHCARE WORKERS GO FOUR YEARS WITHOUT A RAISE – NOT AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE

Health Authority Executive Branch, Which Is Full Of Scott Moe’s Friends, See Compensation Skyrocket $300K
REGINA — As of today, Saskatchewan healthcare workers have gone four full years without a raise as many seek out work in other provinces, and the cost of living continues to climb.

“Scott Moe sits on his hands while the cost of living keeps climbing and our healthcare workers leave in droves,” said Carla Beck, Saskatchewan NDP Leader. “How can we get our health system out of last place if we don't take care of the people who take care of us?

“We hear every day from healthcare workers turning to food banks, selling their blood plasma and piling on credit card debt just to get by. These people take care of us during some of our worst days. They deserve respect, fair wages and a seat at the table as we fix healthcare.”

Saskatchewan health care workers last received a wage increase on April 1, 2022, and have been without a new contract since 2023. Add this to the snail-pace of bargaining and it has the effect of driving workers away from healthcare.
“Many of these workers were forced to swallow zeros and now languish without a contract. It’s simply unacceptable that SHA executive pay is up $300,000 when the people on the frontlines haven’t seen a raise in three years,” said Meara Conway, Shadow Health Minister.

“Meanwhile the SHA’s communications lead - Scott Moe’s former press secretary and leadership campaign staffer Jim Billington- just got a whopping 7% raise and spends his days downplaying the frontline chaos that frontline providers live every single day.”

Last month, hundreds of healthcare workers rallied in front of the Legislature for wage increases. Currently, more than 28,000 unionized healthcare workers across Saskatchewan are still being denied a fair deal, from continuing care assistants and dietary staff to housekeepers and clerical workers.

“This tired and out-of-touch Sask. Party clearly has zero interest in paying our healthcare workers what they are worth,” added Nathaniel Teed, Shadow Minister for Labour. “Scott Moe didn’t even budget for a new contract in their latest bad news budget.

Four years without a raise sounds like an April Fool/s joke, but it’s a reality for our healthcare workers after 20 years of the Sask. Party. It’s time for change.”
