SASKATCHEWAN EMPLOYMENT TANKS WITH 5,500 JOBS GONE LAST MONTH
YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT UP TO 11.9 PER CENT
REGINA – Scott Moe continues to have the worst jobs record in Canada as Statistics Canada’s latest job report shows more bad news with Saskatchewan jobs decreasing by 5,500 last month.
“The numbers don't lie,” said Aleana Young, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Jobs and Economy. “With Scott Moe at the wheel, our province is going in the wrong direction.”
Total employment in Saskatchewan decreased by 5,500 jobs and fulltime employment fell by 3,900 jobs month over month.
The unemployment rate has risen to 5.6%, and youth unemployment has shot up to 11.9% across the province.
Two thousand jobs were lost in the Swift Current-Moose Jaw economic region. The unemployment rate in the Prince Albert and Northern region increased to 7.1%, and the unemployment rate for the Saskatoon-Biggar region increased to 5.5%
“Power bills are up, car insurance is up, taxes on hunting and fishing are up, but jobs and opportunity are down,” said Young. “Saskatchewan has so much potential but we will not get our province moving forward again with the same old out-of-touch government.”
“The latest jobs report simply confirms what Saskatchewan people know to be true – it's time for a change.”
