SASK. PARTY TEES UP ‘NORTHERN GOLF CLASSIC’ AMID WORST WILDFIRE SEASON IN A DECADE

SASK. PARTY VISITS LUXURY NORTHERN GOLF COURSE BEFORE DEVASTATED NORTHERN COMMUNITIES
SASKATOON – Scott Moe's Sask. Party is teeing up a “Northern Golf Classic” early next week amid the worst stretch of wildfires Northern Saskatchewan has seen in over a decade.
The current Sask. Party Leader has yet to tour the northern communities devastated by wildfires – Denare Beach, East Trout Lake, and Sucker River – and hear firsthand from residents.
There also is no evidence of Moe visiting any evacuation centres in Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Lloydminster or elsewhere, despite his claims to the contrary. To this day, thousands of Saskatchewan residents remain evacuated.
“I would have hoped Premier Moe made it to Denare Beach, East Trout Lake or Sucker River before golfing a few hours away in Elk Ridge,” said Jordan McPhail, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Northern Affairs. “Moe has been completely MIA when the people of the North needed him most.”
Residents of devastated communities have openly questioned for weeks why Scott Moe has not yet visited what remains of their communities and speak with the many people who have lost their homes. Hundreds of permanent homes and family cabins have been destroyed and the damage estimates in the North are in the millions. Some evacuees still have not received any funding support nearly three months into the crisis and the Sask. Party has still not managed to get several critically needed water bombers into the air.
“This just shows how out of touch the Sask. Party has become after 18 years in power,” said Brittney Senger, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Ethics. “You can’t just ignore people in desperate need and then book a golf getaway in their backyards.
“I am calling on Scott Moe to get off the tee box, cancel his golf fundraiser and finally do something to support the people of the North.”
