SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan NDP is calling on the new Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) to commit to launching an independent public inquiry into the disastrous 2025 wildfire response that saw entire communities burn to the ground.
SASK. PARTY ADVANCED EDUCATION MINISTER MUST PUT A STOP TO LAYOFFS AT POST-SECONDARY SCHOOLS
The Minister, due to go before the media this morning, has sat on his hands over four rounds of layoffs at Saskatchewan Polytechnic — 128 employees were let go in total.
There are widespread rumours of other schools planning layoffs as well.
“This is our future we’re talking about — the people working at these schools are responsible for educating our future leaders,” said Tajinder Grewal, Saskatchewan NDP Advanced Education Shadow Minister.
“We’ve seen 18 years of the Sask. Party chronically underfunding postsecondary. Saskatchewan can’t build a strong economy by cutting the very programs that prepare people for good jobs.
“At a time when we need more skilled workers, the government is choosing to do less and say even less about how they’ll fix this mess.”
Grewal is demanding Minister Cheveldeyoff present today to the media a plan to prevent all further layoffs at Saskatchewan post-secondary schools.
