SASK NDP SLAMS SASK PARTY FOR BLOCKING GAS TAX RELIEF, DOUBLES DOWN ON AFFORDABILITY FIGHT

SASKATOON – Carla Beck’s Saskatchewan NDP blasted the Sask. Party for blocking an emergency motion that would have lowered gas and diesel prices by 15 cents per litre today.

Standing outside a Saskatoon gas station, NDP Shadow Minister for Finance Trent Wotherspoon vowed to keep fighting for cost-of-living relief, committing to further emergency votes in the Legislature to pressure the Sask. Party and provide real relief to families before Christmas.

“This government has piled on taxes and costs while blocking critical relief for families who are doing everything they can but still running on empty,” said Wotherspoon. “After 17 years in power, these guys are completely out of touch with the struggles facing hardworking Saskatchewan people.”

The Saskatchewan NDP’s proposed gas tax cut would have saved families hundreds of dollars over six months, lowering Saskatchewan’s highest-in-the-Prairies gas prices, but the Sask. Party blocked the motion without offering any immediate solutions.

“No government should be standing in the way of relief,” added Wotherspoon. “If this government weren’t so out of touch, the price at the pump this morning could have been in buck-twenty territory, like what we’re seeing in Manitoba and Alberta.

“Blocking cheaper gas prices doesn’t look like change to me — it looks like the same old Sask. Party.”
