SASK. NDP CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION, ACCOUNTABILITY AFTER SASKATCHEWAN HEALTH AUTHORITY CARE HOME DEATH

SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan NDP is echoing calls for accountability and answers for a Saskatoon family after William Cone, 86, tragically passed away while he was supposed to be in the care of the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA).

CBC reports that, just 36 hours after moving into Preston Special Care Home in Saskatoon, William Cone wandered out of the facility completely unnoticed on October 11.
Cone’s family told CBC that he had Alzheimer's and that a door at the government-run facility had been left propped open without any monitoring by staff, security cameras or alarms.
“This situation is tragic, and my heart goes out to William’s family,” said Vicki Mowat, Saskatchewan NDP Deputy Leader. “We all rightly expect that these SHA care homes will take care of our parents and grandparents. Safety and security should be a top priority.
“The Saskatchewan Health Authority needs to explain how this was allowed to happen. We’ve seen too many similar tragedies like this in our province in just that last few years. It should not take this happening repeatedly for the SHA to learn.”
In response to William Hastie passing away after wandering out of his Saskatoon care home, Sask. Party Seniors Minister Lori Carr in May said that she expected better.
The Saskatchewan NDP has proven that the board of the Saskatchewan Health Authority is stacked with Sask. Party donors, political operatives, and the friends of Health Ministers, including the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Board.
