SARAUER CALLS ON SASK. PARTY MINISTER TIM MCLEOD TO RELEASE REPORT INTO SUSPENDED MARSHAL

REGINA – Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Justice Nicole Sarauer is calling on the Sask. Party Minister responsible for the Marshals Service, Tim McLeod, to release the report conducted by the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) into one of his officers.

Before the Marshals Service was even fully operational, an officer was placed on administrative leave while an investigation was carried out.
CBC Saskatchewan broke yesterday that the investigation is now complete, and the report has been delivered to Minister McLeod’s agency. McLeod’s Marshal has resigned.
“Minister McLeod needs to be straight with the people of Saskatchewan and release this investigation,” said Sarauer.
“This is a brand-new police agency that has already been marred by scandal and criticism. I hope the Minister will want to try to rebuild trust.”
Last August, 89 municipalities penned a letter to Premier Scott Moe calling on the Sask. Party to pump the brakes on the Marshal Service.
Chiefs of Police in Saskatchewan, including in McLeod’s own community, have warned that the Marshals will poach RCMP and local police officers away from the frontlines where they are badly needed.
The government of Saskatchewan has released the findings of PCC investigations or entire PCC reports in the past, especially in cases of public interest, including in 2023, 2015 and twice in 2013.
“McLeod needs to think long and hard about the message he will send if he chooses to hide this report,” said Sarauer.
“These things have a way of blowing up in your face.”
