REGINA UCC TO CLOSE DURING COUNTRY THUNDER WEEKEND AS SASK. PARTY BREAKS PROMISES AND FAILS TO STAFF HEALTHCARE

REGINA – The Saskatchewan NDP is calling on the Sask. Party to reverse its cuts to the health budget after news broke that the Regina Urgent Care Centre (UCC) will close entirely on Sunday and operate under severely reduced hours during one of the busiest weekends of the year – the Country Thunder music festival.

The UCC normally operates daily until 9:30 p.m. and was originally promised to be a 24/7 facility when first announced – a commitment that has since been walked back by the Sask. Party.
On account of the shortage of doctors in Saskatchewan, the UCC will open Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and close early at 12:00 p.m. It will remain closed all day Sunday.
“This isn’t just any weekend. It’s Country Thunder weekend, when tens of thousands of people flood into the Regina area and emergency services are already stretched thin,” said Jared Clarke, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Rural and Remote Health.
“The Urgent Care Centre should not be closed on one of the busiest weekends of the year.”
Country Thunder Saskatchewan draws tens of thousands of people to Craven every year, placing extra pressure on Regina emergency rooms and first responders.
“This is exactly the kind of situation the UCC was built for,” Clarke said.
“People in Regina and across the province were promised reliable, accessible urgent care. That promise has been broken because the Sask. Party cut the health budget and is driving doctors out of Saskatchewan.”
