NINE-YEAR-OLD WAITING YEARS FOR SURGERY AS SCOTT MOE CONTINUES TO FAIL ON HEALTHCARE

Carla Beck’s Team Stands With Mother Desperate To Get Her Daughter Proper Healthcare
SASKATOON – Cassie Reid, the mother of a nine-year-old Saskatoon girl, says delays in getting her daughter an appointment with a surgeon have turned their lives upside down.

For years, fluid has been dripping into the young girl’s lungs, causing difficulty breathing, a persistent cough, and forcing her to miss out on school and other activities while she waits in discomfort for a procedure.

“When our kids get sick, we should be able to provide the best medical care imaginable for them,” said Keith Jorgenson, Associate Shadow Minister for Health.

“Two years is way too long of a wait to see a surgeon, let alone actually get the procedure this young girl needs to live a normal life again.”

After seeing a specialist in October 2024, Reid was told in June 2025 that the specialist had left. The family continues to wait for an appointment with a surgeon nearly two years later, with no end in sight.

“My nine-year-old daughter has been waiting two years for ENT surgery, and we haven’t even made it onto the surgical waitlist yet,” said Reid. “No child should have to wait that long for medical care.”

The Sask. Party has yet again promised a three-month surgical wait for 90 per cent of patients after failing — then abandoning — their 2012 commitment to reduce surgical wait times to 30 days.

As of the end of 2025, over 17,000 patients were waiting longer than three months for surgery in Saskatchewan, according to the SHA’s website.

“The Sask. Party has broken our healthcare system, and they can't be trusted to fix it,” Jorgenson said.

“People are tired of broken promises. It’s time for change.”
