NEARLY FORTY PER CENT OF SASKATCHEWAN PEOPLE FORCED TO BORROW OR SPEND SAVINGS ON FOOD AS SASK. PARTY FAILS TO MAKE LIFE MORE AFFORDABLE

Scott Moe & His Friends Continue To Tax Groceries, Clothes, Tires, And Ignore Overwhelming Need For Rent Control
SASKATCHEWAN – Nearly four-in-ten Saskatchewan people are being forced to either drain their savings or borrow money just to cover the cost of food — a higher number than anywhere else in Canada, according to new data.
“Clearly, whatever the Sask. Party claims to be doing to make life more affordable hasn’t done a damn thing,” said Saskatchewan NDP Deputy Leader Vicki Mowat.
“Scott Moe and his Ministers stand in the Legislature every day and marvel at supposedly how affordable Saskatchewan is — perhaps for them and their friends, but we hear every day from people who are working harder and harder and falling farther behind.”
The Canadian Food Sentiment Index, released by Dalhousie University late last week, found 39 per cent of Saskatchewan people reported using their savings or borrowing money just to put food on the kitchen table over the past 12 months – the highest rate in the country.
Saskatchewan people were also third-most likely to report that they suspected food prices will continue to rise, reinforcing previous data that has found people here have the highest financial anxiety in Canada.
“We don’t have to settle for this,” Mowat said. “We can fight back and demand the Sask. Party end its $25-million-per-year tax on groceries and their $20-million-per-year tax on clothes for kids.
“We can bring rent control to Saskatchewan too — in fact, that’s exactly what we intend to do. We can build a bright future where every person in this province can put a roof over their head and food on the kitchen table.”
