SASKATOON – Perhaps, when he goes before the media this morning, Premier Scott Moe himself can explain to the people of Saskatchewan today why he believe his Ministers should be allowed to spend $10,000 per plane ticket to wine and dine at 30,000 feet while Saskatchewan people on the ground below stack on debt and scrape together pocket change to afford food.

Saskatchewan has the highest rate of financial insecurity in Canada.

Still, despite this, Moe’s out-of-touch Advanced Education Minister Ken Cheveldayoff booked himself four business class tickets for a taxpayer-funded trip to Asia this spring. The cost of each ticket? In excess of $10,000.

“The minister lives the high life while everyday Saskatchewan people turn to food banks in record numbers, take on a second credit cards and worry about how they’re going to pay sky-high rent,” Carla Beck said. “Talk about being out of touch.”

The Sask. Party has rejected widespread criticism of the Minister’s trip, saying it was compliant with the rules. The government has provided no clear, tangible benefits of the trip to Saskatchewan people.

“This isn’t just about the Minister who thinks he can get away with this, it’s about his boss who has allowed a culture of waste, corruption and entitlement to fester,” Beck said. “This morning, I’m calling on Scott Moe to step up to the plate, apologize and pledge the Ken Cheveldayoff will pay the people of Saskatchewan back for this ridiculous excursion out of his own pocket.

“The people of Saskatchewan deserve better. They deserve a government focused on making their lives more affordable, not living it up on their dime,” Beck said.

“It’s time for change.”
