MOE SHOULD COME CLEAN ON POWER BILL HIKE TODAY — OR PUT A STOP TO IT

Scott Moe’s Cowardly SaskPower Minister Has Gone To Great Lengths To Hide From Public, Cover Up His Failures
SASKATOON – Scott Moe owes the people of Saskatchewan a clear and transparent explanation for his planned $136-million hike on their power bills when he goes before reporters later today. Saskatchewan families, farms, and industry deserve a commitment to release all the detailed information on the long-term strategy for SaskPower generation.

“If he doesn’t have answers and won’t make a commitment to full disclosure, then there’s only one move for this Premier to make — stop the rate hike,” said Aleana Young, Shadow Minister for SaskPower. “Industry and farms can’t take a cost increase — and people can’t afford this, not as the price for food, rent, car insurance, and more continues to skyrocket, too.

“We know half of Saskatchewan can’t make ends meet, and they deserve a government that recognizes this and will act to lower the cost of living immediately.”

Moe denied any talk of a power bill hike when questioned in the Legislature on Dec. 4. This came after the Minister responsible for SaskPower, Jeremy Harrison, hid from questions about his financial mismanagement of the Crown corporation during a Dec. 3 meeting of the Crown and Central Agencies Committee. Documents had been tabled in the legislature just days prior, indicating an additional $1 billion in spending by the Minister.

On Jan. 2, an application for a massive power bill hike was released, and rates are due to increase on Feb. 1. The Sask. Party has conducted no public consultation — something that is typically required — and refused to hold a news conference or provide any of the Minister’s apparent “all of the above plan." SaskPower hasn’t even produced a business plan for 2026-27.

Harrison has rejected the impact of his $136 million power bill, claiming it’s “modest.”

“What we’re seeing here is a Sask. Party government that has stopped caring about the people it was elected to serve — and they will go to unprecedented lengths to hide, duck accountability and cover their tracks,” Young said.

“I’ve reviewed every public document about this rate hike and only one thing is clear — the people of Saskatchewan are being forced to pay more for Scott Moe’s waste, chaos and mismanagement. That’s not good enough — it’s time for change.”
