New Statistics Canada interprovincial migration figures show Saskatchewan recorded a net loss of 864 residents through interprovincial migration in the first quarter of 2026, the worst per capita interprovincial migration in Canada. The data shows a loss of 68.2 people per 100,000 residents, roughly 50 per cent higher than neighbouring Manitoba.
"Every one of these numbers marks a person or family making a hard decision for them and one that is a loss for our province,” said Trent Wotherspoon, Shadow Finance Minister. “With Scott Moe’s failed record, life has become unaffordable, healthcare is in worse shape than ever and we have the highest rate of severe crime in the nation.
“I love this province and the hardworking, self-reliant people that call it home. They deserve a Premier and a government that is listening to their concerns and pulling out all the stops to help them build a future right here in Saskatchewan.”
This new data also follows the two consecutive quarters of population decline, where Saskatchewan lost over 1,000 residents. In the first quarter of 2026, Saskatchewan’s population increased by only 156.
