CARLA BECK TAKES CALL FOR ACTION ON TRUMP TARIFFS STRAIGHT TO SCOTT MOE’S DOOR

Sask. Party Denied Calls Monday To Reconvene Legislature Immediately, Willing To Do Nothing For 56 More Days

SASKATOON - Carla Beck and her team took their call for urgent action on Donald Trump’s escalating trade war straight to the Sask. Party cabinet office Tuesday, demanding the Premier recall the Legislature and get to work protecting Saskatchewan jobs and making life more affordable.

The move comes after Moe’s own ignorant MLA for White City-Qu'Appelle Brad Crassweller said addressing the crisis caused by the intensifying trade war wasn’t the Sask. Party government’s job.

“How ignorant and incompetent — clearly representative of a government that’s long past its best before date,” said Don McBean, MLA for Saskatoon Chief Mistawasis. “We need action now to make life more affordable and to debate and deliver on measures and programs to support workers in tariff-impacted sectors.

“Scott Moe dropped everything last month to fly south of the border attend the funeral of a Trump ally who threatened our very Canadian sovereignty; however, when it comes to Saskatchewan workers and the future of our economy he can’t be bothered to even show up for work,” McBean added.

Standing outside the door of the Saskatoon Cabinet Office Tuesday, McBean said the government could call the Legislature back immediately and pass nine bills introduced by Beck’s team to make life more affordable. Among them was legislation to end provincial taxes on groceries and kids’ clothing, reverse power rate and car insurance hikes, bring in rent control, crack down on AI-driven surveillance price gouging, increase grocery competition and prioritize Saskatchewan workers for Saskatchewan projects.

To date, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Prince Edward Island have all introduced measures to protect workers and businesses from the impacts of tariffs, including retraining and skills grants, working-capital loans, business supports and incentives aimed at protecting jobs.

“We’re literally knocking on the door of this Premier’s Cabinet office and no one’s home,” McBean. “This is a time for leadership. Saskatchewan people deserve a government that will fight for them, rather than downplaying the trade war and pandering to Trump at every turn.

“Good work is being done in other provinces, but here Scott Moe and the Sask. Party are still busy working on their summertime tans or getting in a few last-minute trips to the lake. It’s shameful.”

Saskatchewan families are already dealing with the highest levels of financial anxiety in Canada, record food bank use and rising costs before the latest escalation of Trump's trade war.
