CARLA BECK’S TEAM WILL DEMAND FULL LIST OF ALL SCHOOL DELAYS, CANCELLATIONS IN WAKE OF BAD NEWS BUDGET

Scott Moe, Minister Haven’t Been Able To Keep Their Story Straight
REGINA – Today, Carla Beck’s team will be again demanding full transparency on all school delays and potential cancellation of new-school projects as a result of Scott Moe’s bad news budget.

The questions will be posed direct to Moe’s Education Minister Everett Hindley at the start of estimates consideration for the Education Ministry this afternoon. The budget, released less than two weeks ago, slashes funding for school capital projects by 35 per cent. Since those figures were released, Beck’s team has confirmed that a new school announced in Carlyle has been paused indefinitely as has a new school in Regina’s The Towns area and a planned renovation of one-third of Campbell Collegiate.

Rumours continue to swirl about several other projects being impacted by Moe’s budget.

“The Education Minister confirmed school delays two days after the budget, then Scott Moe denied that, then he tried to deflect responsibility to school boards — this has been a horrible political game by the Sask. Party from Day 1, especially with something as important as schools for Saskatchewan children,” said Matt Love, Education Shadow Minister.

“Today, the Minister can’t duck or dodge anymore. We’ve got hours to go over this bad news budget for education today and I’m going to look him square in the eyes and demand the release of a full list of school delays.”
The bad news budget also cuts funding for students.

“Families are leaving Saskatchewan — our provincial population is in decline for the first time in 20 years,” Love said. “The last thing we should be doing is piling on further to what has already been a decade of Sask. Party cuts to classrooms.
“Scott Moe has no strategy to keep people here to build their careers and raise their families. He could start with ensuring our classrooms are properly funded.”

“This isn’t a budget for Saskatchewan families — it betrays the promises this government made when campaigning for the peoples votes.

“We will be relentless in getting answers for Saskatchewan families and we will fight every day for public education in this province. It’s time for change.”
