CARLA BECK’S TEAM TAKES EIGHT-POINT PLAN TO MAKE LIFE MORE AFFORDABLE TO MOOSE JAW

Moose Jaw Workers Getting Slammed with Gas Prices, Moe’s Taxes, And Rate Hikes
MOOSE JAW – During a day spent meeting with workers right across Moose Jaw, Carla Beck called on Scott Moe to adopt eight measures immediately to make life more affordable, including passing several critically needed pieces of legislation introduced by her team in recent weeks.

Saskatchewan people report greater financial anxiety than anywhere else in Canada. The prices of many essential food items have shot up 50 per cent since Scott Moe became Premier, gas prices have surged by 50 cents or more per litre in recent weeks and rent has risen in Saskatchewan for 43-straight months and climbing.

As well, Moe continues to charge families $25 million in taxes on groceries and $20 million in taxes on children’s clothing. He’s also pressing ahead with a $136-million power rate hike on families, farms and small businesses after promising no hike was coming and is planning a hike to car insurance rates in June.

“Not only is Scott Moe doing precisely nothing to help struggling Saskatchewan workers make ends meet — he’s doing all he can to make things that much harder,” Beck said. “We hear from workers sleeping in their cars, donating their blood plasma for money and living off food bank hampers.

“We know workers are making heartbreaking decisions between keeping a roof over their head and food on the kitchen table. Every day this Spring Sitting, we have called on Scott Moe to take action to make life more affordable — and he’s refused every single time.”

Beck’s immediate measures to make life more affordable are as follows:

  • Immediately suspend the Scott Moe gas tax
  • Cut the $25-million Sask. Party tax on groceries
  • Cut the $20-million Sask. Party tax on kids’ clothing
  • Reverse the $136-million SaskPower rate hike
  • Stop plans to impose a rate hike on car insurance
  • Pass The Rent Control Act, introduced by MLA April ChiefCalf
  • Pass legislation introduced by MLA Brittney Senger to crackdown on AI-driven price gouging on essential goods
  • Pass Beck’s legislation to enhance grocery store competition to lower costs

“Every one of these measures could — and should — be accepted and implemented right away,” Beck said. “These would make such a difference in the lives of people right here in Moose Jaw.

“People in Moose Jaw are stretched to the limit. They need relief, and they’re not getting it from this Sask. Party government. It’s time for change.”
