CARLA BECK’S TEAM DEMANDS PROPER REBUILD OF HIGHWAY 22 WEST OF CUPAR, AND COMMIT TO DOING SO IF SASK. PARTY CONTINUE TO REFUSE TO

Roadway Vital Is For Safe Travel Of Emergency Services, School Buses, and Families
CUPAR – Carla Beck’s team is holding the Sask. Party accountable for the complete mismanagement of its projects on Highway 22 west of Cupar and is demanding it be rebuilt properly.

They say it's unsafe and unacceptable as drivers head into winter.

If the Sask. Party continues to refuse to take the proper steps to fix the highway, Carla Beck’s team is fully committed to fixing and rebuilding the sections of Highway 22 should they form the next government.

“Scott Moe and the Sask. Party have ignored the unified calls from constituents and community sounding the alarm about the disastrous state of this highway and the gross mismanagement of their highway construction project all summer long, yet they refuse to listen,” Beck said. “People and this region deserve a safe and reliable highway. It’s critical to our economy and future. If the Sask. Party refuses to do the right thing, we will fix this highway because people relying on it deserve better.”

In July, a community townhall in Cupar made it crystal clear that the Sask. Party’s construction projects were wholly inadequate, unsafe and a wasteful disaster. They say the base of this portion of the highway is not suitable to re-surface and needs to be completely rebuilt and engineered to ensure its long-term viability for drivers. Trent Wotherspoon, Shadow Minister for Finance and Associate Shadow Minister for Agriculture attended that townhall and said the answers from current Sask. Party MLA Travis Keisig didn’t come close to meeting the mark.

Wotherspoon and Carla Beck’s team called for immediate action to address the serious concerns and rebuild the highway properly.

Instead, the Sask. Party and local MLA dismissed and ignored those calls and plowed ahead.

Wotherspoon was joined by numerous local residents Tuesday to hold the government accountable and to demand a commitment to properly rebuild and fix Highway 22 once and for all.

“Throughout the summer the community was united in clearly and strongly communicating to their local MLA and Sask. Party government that the project was nothing short of a wasteful disaster, including that there wasn’t proper pilot holes and testing of the current failed base, and that there’s been huge community safety concerns and disregard for the community,” Wotherspoon said.

“This highway is a vital artery for the community. It's used for emergency services, to get kids to school and activities and is an essential economic and agricultural artery, as producers use it to haul their crop to the terminals in Cupar, Southey, Balcarres, and the Yorkton and Regina crush facilities.

Clearly the Sask. Party isn’t listening and has failed the community  — the highway portions are unsafe and unacceptable. It must be rebuilt properly and we stand united with the community and region demanding that if the Sask. Party fail to fix it we will when elected."

Darcy Warrington, Shadow Minister for Highways & Infrastructure, said the Sask. Party has been in power too long and doesn’t believe it’s accountable to everyday people.

“This government is too busy riding high on private jets to listen to the vital concerns of people down below that rely on having quality roads,” Warrington said.

“Clearly, it's time for change.”
