CARLA BECK’S TEAM DEMANDS FAIR SHARE FOR PRINCE ALBERT AHEAD OF PROVINCIAL BUDGET

Fund the Hospital, More Police, Bring Back Parking Passes for Cancer Patients
PRINCE ALBERT – Saskatchewan NDP Deputy Leader Vicki Mowat is in Prince Albert today calling on the Moe government to address critical issues keeping residents up at night in the coming provincial budget.

Carla Beck’s team is calling for a budget that fully funds the Victoria Hospital expansion, substantially increases policing and mental health resources, and eliminates cruel parking fees for cancer patients.

“Prince Albert is a great community with so much potential, but it’s been neglected by Scott Moe and the Sask. Party,” said Mowat. “The Moe government is nickel-and-diming cancer patients, adding a $30 million charge for a hospital it promised to fully fund and frontline police officers and support workers the resources they need to succeed.

“Prince Albert deserves much better than this from their provincial government and local MLAs.”

On Feb. 3, it was learned that the Sask. Party was holding up the Victoria Hospital expansion on the condition that the municipality contribute $30 million. Moe previously said his government would cover the project in full in November.

Mental health and addictions challenges also continue to hold the community back, as does troubling crime rates. According to Prince Albert Police data, the city continues to experience some of the highest crime severity levels in the province and an uptick in violent crime in particular, with nearly 2,000 incidents in 2025.

“We used to be the place where you left your door unlocked,” said Mowat. “After nearly 20 years of the Sask. Party, people don’t feel safe in their homes or communities anymore.

“Right now, our province’s population is shrinking for the first time in 20 years. Everything is more expensive, crime is rising, and opportunities and people are leaving our province and our communities.

“It's long past time this government started focusing on the things that matter most to people. It’s time for change so we can get this great community moving forward again.”
