CARLA BECK’S TEAM DEMAND MORATORIUM ON HYPERSCALE AI DATA CENTRES AFTER HEARING OVERWHELMING CONCERNS FROM PEOPLE IN MOOSE JAW

Beck’s Team Consulted With Local Residents Because Scott Moe & Sask. Party Refused To
MOOSE JAW – Carla Beck’s team is in Moose Jaw today demanding a complete moratorium on the construction of all hyperscale AI data centres in Saskatchewan.

The call comes in the wake of widespread concerns about the projects, including the demand on the power grid, water usage, the protection of data and a total and complete lack of any consultation by Scott Moe and the Sask. Party.

A major data centre proposed for the Valley View site in Moose Jaw now appears to be paused; however, residents continue to fear it will eventually be rammed ahead without any consultation, just like another massive centre proposed for the rural municipality of Sherwood, near Regina.

“People in Saskatchewan deserve a voice in the future of their communities,” Beck said. “We consulted residents in Moose Jaw who had major concerns and posted insightful and thoughtful questions about these data centres — the Sask. Party ignored every single one of them.

“We did the Sask. Party’s job for them and heard the overwhelming need for a moratorium. This government has been in power for too long and no longer believes it’s accountable to everyday people, only their friends and insiders.”

Jobs, Economy & SaskPower Shadow Minister Aleana Young, who is in Moose Jaw today, noted the Sask. Party has already doubled down on coal, a shortsighted decision that will at least double power bills for Saskatchewan families already struggling to make ends meet.

“Now, we’ve got a data centre near Regina that will be quadruple the size originally planned and another more than two dozen other projects proposed and not a single answer on how they’re going to be powered,” Young said.

“This is the prelude to what always happens with Scott Moe and the Sask. Party. They fail to do their jobs or cut shady backroom deals with their political insiders and it’s everyday Saskatchewan people that are left to foot the bill.

“Enough is enough,” Young added. “Our message to Moose Jaw residents — and all Saskatchewan people — is we don’t have to settle for this.

“We can fight back. We can kick this incompetent Scott Moe government to the curb and get back to working together to build a future that is affordable, filled with good-paying jobs where everyday people benefit from the projects and incredible opportunities our province has to offer.

“Clearly, it’s time for change.”
