PRINCE ALBERT- Carla Beck’s team is demanding accountability from the Sask. Party government after multiple roads in the Prince Albert area were washed away, leaving residents vulnerable and municipalities scrambling to respond as water levels continue to rise.
CARLA BECK’S TEAM CALLS OUT SASK. PARTY GOVERNMENT FAILURE AS ROADS WASH OUT ACROSS PRINCE ALBERT REGION
The Rural Municipality of Prince Albert has confirmed that the Water Security Agency has now placed the region under an Extremely High Flow Advisory, underscoring the seriousness of the situation and the growing risks facing communities, producers, and local infrastructure.
“Scott Moe and the Sask. Party have known for years that Saskatchewan’s rural infrastructure is aging and vulnerable, yet they have failed to properly plan, invest, and prepare,” said Erika Ritchie, Shadow Minister for Government Relations. “Now, roads are washing away, communities are being cut off, and local governments are being left to deal with the consequences.”
Carla Beck’s team says repeated warnings from municipalities about deteriorating roads have been ignored while critical infrastructure needs continue to grow. Moe’s bad news budget saw the spending for highways capital reduced by $20.5 million — dropping from $421.4 million in 2025–26 to $400.9 million in 2026–27. As well, capital spending for dams and water supply channels has been cut by 16 per cent, from $73.9 million to $61.9 million.
“Rural municipalities cannot keep carrying this burden alone,” said Ritchie. “Instead of proactive planning and infrastructure upgrades, Scott Moe and the Sask. Party has relied on short-term fixes while Saskatchewan people pay the price every time severe weather hits.”
Beck’s team is calling on the province to immediately provide emergency support for affected municipalities, commit to covering repair costs, and deliver a comprehensive infrastructure resiliency plan focused on flood mitigation, road stability, and rural preparedness.
“Extreme weather events are becoming more common, but the government continues to take a reactive approach,” Ritchie said. “People in the Prince Albert region deserve safe roads, reliable infrastructure, and a government that takes these risks seriously before communities are put in danger.”
Carla Beck’s team will continue pressing the government for answers and advocating for long-term investments to protect Saskatchewan communities and keep residents safe.
