Scott Moe, Minister Under Siege Reject Calls To Come Clean With Saskatchewan People
REGINA – Carla Beck’s team is calling on Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan Todd Goudy to step in and make public hidden leases at the centre of the deepening Sublet Scandal.
CARLA BECK’S TEAM CALLS ON SPEAKER TO RELEASE THE LEASE AT CENTRE OF SUBLET SCANDAL
On Tuesday, it surfaced that Scott Moe’s Minister of Advanced Education Ken Cheveldayoff lied to the people of Saskatchewan when he insisted he wasn’t subletting his taxpayer-funded office to a longtime Sask. Party donor. Listings posted by his own realtor make it clear the space was being offered as a “sublease only,” despite such a practice being banned in 2016. What’s more, Cheveldayoff was actively working to sublease the property into fall of 2025, the listings reveal, even after being told to stop the practice by Speaker Goudy.
Carla Beck’s team has demanded the Minister release the lease for his office as questions swirl about why he would have entered into a disallowed arrangement and what potential benefits he received in return. Cheveldayoff has continued to insist the office was operated under a “split lease” despite all evidence suggesting that was a lie.
On Wednesday, Ethics & Democracy Shadow Minister Jordan McPhail took the step of writing directly to Goudy, calling on him to release the lease.
“It’s clear that Ken Cheveldayoff is going to continue to hide the truth from the people of Saskatchewan and that his boss Scott Moe is going to cover for him, too,” McPhail said. “So, today, I’m calling on Speaker Todd Goudy to do the right thing and make this lease public so we can get to the bottom of this Sublet Scandal.”
McPhail held a news conference Wednesday morning to share a letter he sent to the Speaker as well as copies of his own lease for his constituency office in La Ronge.
“I’ve got nothing to hide — I wish the Minister could say the same,” McPhail said.
In his letter to the Speaker, McPhail said, “As you know, all MLAs are entrusted with funds for the honour of representing the people of Saskatchewan, and, as Speaker elected by all MLAs and Chair of the BOIE, you have a duty to ensure that all Members adhere to the rules.”
McPhail is also seeking an investigation into the scandal by the provincial Conflict of Interest Commissioner and has turned over a series of findings to that office.
