CARLA BECK RECOMMITS TO BUILDING HIGH SCHOOL FOR WHITE CITY & EMERALD PARK, CONSTRUCTION WILL BEGIN IN YEAR 1 OF NDP GOVERNMENT

Scott Moe, Sask. Party Have Ignored Pleas From Thousands Of Families For Years
WHITE CITY – Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck is renewing her commitment to build a much-needed high school for White City and Emerald Park, pledging that shovels would be in the ground in Year 1 of her government.

“We have been advocating for this school for years, the community has been advocating even longer — clearly, the Sask. Party doesn’t care,” Beck said. “This is a government that wastes money like we’ve not seen in a generation, driving our provincial debt to $40 billion, and they refuse to invest in students and the schools families are desperately asking for.

“Our Saskatchewan NDP government will know the value of public education and having good schools close to home. We will get to work on Day 1 fixing public education and building our communities for the future.”

White City and Emerald Park are the largest communities in the province with no high school, and the only with more a combined population of 5,000 or more.

“Saskatchewan students are our future and deserve so much better than they’re getting from this Sask. Party Government,” said Matt Love, Saskatchewan NDP Education Shadow Minister. “We know that while thousands more students have enrolled in Saskatchewan schools in recent years, there are fewer teachers and educational assistants to support them and their learning.

“The lack of schools is a problem right across Saskatchewan and more than 130 of those open in the province are rated as being either in ‘poor’ or ‘critical’ condition — the government’s own reporting makes that clear.”

Hugh Gordon, Saskatchewan NDP SaskBuilds & Procurement Shadow Minister, said an NDP Government will listen to people in communities and work relentlessly to build infrastructure that has been ignored by Scott Moe and co. for too long.

“Clearly, the Sask. Party MLA for White City is either ineffective or refuses to even advocate for his own constituents,” Gordon said. “We know the only ones benefiting in Scott Moe’s Saskatchewan are his political friends and insiders.

“That stops the day after the next provincial election. We will build the school that students in White City & Emerald Park deserve — it’s time for change."
