BECK DEMANDS PLAN TO PROTECT MOOSE JAW JOBS AMID TRADE WAR, CALLS ON LOCAL MLAS TO COME OUT OF HIDING & HOLD TOWN HALL

Beck says weak response from Scott Moe and Sask. Party Government isn’t going to cut it

MOOSE JAW – Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck declared the trade war with Trump unprecedented and is demanding more action from Scott Moe and the Sask. Party to protect jobs in Moose Jaw and across the province.

“When I think of this city, I think of strength -- of a strong economy, with industry that punches well above its weight,” Beck said during a news conference in Moose Jaw on Thursday. “But I didn’t see that same strength from Scott Moe and the Sask. Party yesterday. What I saw was weak.

“That’s not good enough. I’m here today to demand they call an emergency session and get to work on building a plan, one that guarantees they will protect Moose Jaw jobs.

“I’m also calling on the two Sask. Party MLAs elected to represent this city to come out of hiding and hold a public town hall on this crisis and inform their own constituents how they plan to work around the clock to secure Moose Jaw’s future.”

Beck noted that Moe was the last Premier in Canada to take action in response to the tariffs during a news conference called late Wednesday. Even then, Moe merely parroted measures already announced in other provinces and provided little detail on some apparent commitments to limit contracts and jobs being awarded to US companies.

“People needed Moe but he was MIA, “ Beck said. “It’s clear the Sask. Party has no plan – they've sat on their hands for months as the threat of a trade war loomed.

“The people of Saskatchewan deserve better leadership. They deserve a government focused on the future.”
