AS BUDGET DRAWS NEAR, CARLA BECK’S TEAM DEMANDS ACTION TO MAKE LIFE AFFORDABLE, END HEALTHCARE CRISIS, MAKE COMMUNITIES SAFER

Deputy Leader Attends State Of The City Address
NORTH BATTLEFORD – Carla Beck’s team is demanding proper investment in next week’s budget to make life more affordable, get healthcare out of last place and improve public safety in North Battleford.

Financial anxiety in Saskatchewan is the highest in Canada and 78,000 children live in heartbreaking poverty. Still, Scott Moe is pressing ahead with rate hikes for power and vehicle insurance. His government also continues to tax groceries and children’s clothing.

“People in North Battleford — and right across Saskatchewan — are working harder and harder and falling farther behind,” said Vicki Mowat, Saskatchewan NDP Deputy Leader. “They deserve a government that’s got their backs, that will work to lower the cost of living and save struggling families money.

“This Government is offloading responsibilities onto municipalities for housing, for wraparound supports and more — that’s driving up property taxes.”

As well, North Battleford is represented by Scott Moe’s own failed Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill. Despite this, healthcare in the region has been a constant challenge. Doctors are leaving Saskatchewan and rural emergency rooms close without warning.

“Earlier this week, Scott Moe’s team announced a ‘new’ healthcare plan — one they also rolled out in 2012 and before that in 2009,” said Mowat. “The Premier said he wants to ‘start a conversation’ on healthcare — he’s been in the job for eight years, why did he sit on his hands while the healthcare system collapsed?

“It’s time for big, bold change to get Saskatchewan healthcare out of last place, but that’s not going to happen on Moe’s watch. His government broke healthcare and can’t be trusted to fix it.”
Mowat said the financial mismanagement of the Sask. Party will be paid for by future generations.

“The provincial debt has risen to $40 billion and half of that came on Moe’s watch,” she said.

“This Government is tired, out of touch and focused only on supporting their friends and insiders. Clearly, it’s time for change in North Battleford — Carla Beck is that change.”
