Saskatchewan health care provider unions have their work cut out for them in trying to secure new collective agreements. Not only do they have to deal with the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations (SAHO), representing health care employers, and its political master, the anti-worker Saskatchewan Party government. They now have to contend with what appears to be pro-SAHO reporting by Health Ministry bureaucrats.

But when the government revealed last November that it had overestimated royalties and other revenues from potash mining to the tune of $1.8 billion in 2009–10, the honeymoon was truly over.

Within 48 hours the story was in Melbourne, Australia, some 14,400 kilometers away, home of the country’s largest-selling newspaper, The Herald Sun: Burning Twin Towers used in pig roast ad, the embarrassing headline read.

A cadre of small-town Canadian politicos is standing by its invitation to a "pig roast" fundraiser that depicts the fiery moments after United Airlines Flight 175 slammed into the World Trade Center South Tower. The horrific imagery was nothing more than an invite for a $50 a head Saskatchewan Party barbecue featuring 9/11 hero Richard Picciotto, a man billed as the highest-ranking firefighter pulled alive from the WTC rubble. Both Picciotto and the FDNY denounced the use of 9/11 imagery as in "bad taste" but the organizers were not deterred.

Wall Government violates budget constraints...

Brad Wall's government inherited an extremely positive, extremely solid fiscal position. And that, unfortunately communicated to the members of the provincial cabinet that there effectively wasn't a budget constraint. And sadly, if I violate my own budget constraints, it costs me and it costs my family.
