Official Opposition backs Public Inquiry: CEO tour reports show Extendicare Parkside tragedy “years in the making”

REGINA - Official Opposition Leader Ryan Meili and Critic for Seniors Matt Love reiterated the New Democratic Party’s support for a public inquiry into the tragic loss of life at Extendicare Parkside in Regina today, as called for by the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses. They pointed to the history of failure by the Sask. Party government to address the urgent needs in long-term care - as documented in the government CEO Tour reports -  as a major factor in the outbreak that has cost so many lives over the past weeks.

Statement from Official Opposition Leader Ryan Meili on Cigar Lake Mine Suspension

"Unfortunately, this is just the latest example of the Sask. Party’s failure to manage the COVID-19 pandemic. The provincial government has not taken the necessary measures to get COVID-19 under control resulting in serious disruptions for the province’s workforce and the suspension of activities at the Cigar Lake Mine. COVID-19 is taking a terrible toll on people in our schools, hospitals, and long-term care homes; but today’s announcement shows that it is also seriously impacting people’s jobs and our provincial economy. We hope that the mine will be able to safely resume regular operations with its full workforce as soon as possible."

Young: Sask. Party’s mixed messages leave businesses and workers with “the worst of both worlds”

REGINA — With Alberta announcing new restrictions yesterday, the same day that Manitoba announced that the majority of its restrictions would be extended into January, New Democrats’ Critic for Economy and Jobs Aleana Young called on the provincial government to level with businesses and workers and provide real support for those who are struggling.
